He wears a short goatee and short dark hair, which is usually concealed under his helmet. A tarnished breastplate covers his ample chest, and his plain looking -- but unquestionably effective -- two handed sword, christened Anglachel is carried on his back. Strong, but not overly brawny, it is clear that he can wield it with efficient grace and an economy of movement.\n\n!Mannerisms\nAros has been a military man for many years, and a member of the Protectorate for three. The eldest son of a relatively well-to-do merchant, he signed into the army as both a means to defend his nation and a way to escape the monotony of a shop-keeper's life.\nHis acceptance into the Protectorate came following a brief campaign during which several of his squad-mates came under fire from an enemy mage. He was able to save the lives of several of his fellow soldiers and kill the enchanter, but the memory of seeing his friends turn on each other haunts him to this day. As a result, Aros distrusts such 'offensive' use of magic, feeling that such power should be reserved only for protection and healing.\nAt ease around other Knights, he tends to remain aloof around outsiders, despite his otherwise charming personality.

Watson the Fifth, raven.\nThere's a reason he's "the fifth."\nThe current Watson is well aware of this, but is very laid back, unlike any of the previous four, who were all quite stupid, nervous and twitchy.\nWatson likes Aundairan Clair (a wine), though he gets drunk quickly.\nHe speaks elvish almost as well as an elf, and much, much, much better than Jean.\nJean is unsure exactly why this is, as Watson is (supposedly) an otherwise normal familiar.\nWatson has an uncanny ability to remain elsewhere when it's a good idea (which is most of the time), and should be considered to be "by" Jean only when specifically noted or mentioned. Thus, no stats for Watson. He should never be in a situation where stats would be required or otherwise an issue.\n\n\n!Appearance/Description\nJean could be described as "attractive." She has black hair, which usually flows loosely, green eyes, and something of a tan. She is relatively thin and tall.\nJean has both Elvish and Ogre blood in her family, making her slightly taller, stronger, and more "graceful" than the average human, though it isn't obvious this is the source.\n\nOn the field, Jean wears a blue/brown blouse and a set of brown pants, along with a blue cloak and a brown bandolier. At other times, she wears a very nice set of robes, blue with brown designs. She makes her own clothes - this is not a bad thing, as she is a respectable tailor, past the stage of apprentice. She often makes clothes on the field, and on dry (boring) days is known to show up with another set of perfectly fine clothes.\n\n!Mannerisms\nJean rarely, if ever, uses her dagger for fighting. Instead, she tends to clean her fingernails or do other mundane things with it. There is a spell that requires a silver dagger that she has occasionally used, and would otherwise likely not have it.\n\nJean is somewhat "girlish," despite the fact that females in the army tend to have a "tomboyish" streak. This isn't that notable, just a quirk. Or a lack of one.\n\nJean is far too flippant for a war wizard.\nUsual pattern - Do something stupid, realize you've done something stupid, promise yourself you'll never do the stupid thing again, decide it actually wasn't stupid at all, forget about doing something stupid. Repeat.\nIt isn't very clear where this apparent disregard for safety or "airheaded" behavior comes from, as Jean is frighteningly intelligent, able to keep track of many random but important bits of information, such as exactly how many charges a wand has remaining (even one regularly used in stress) or what magic her fellow knights already possess and what spells and items would benefit them.\n\nJean seems and generally acts chaotic good, though she doesn't particularly care about "good vs evil" all that much.\n\nJean keeps very good relations with her family in Sharn, and often writes for odd spell components or other things such as new scrolls, materials for magic items, etc.\nThese tend to arrive within the week, if not sooner, though occasionally the difficulties of war interfere, and the mail services are usually expensive when Jean is far away.\n\nA while ago, Jean spent far too much time practicing the crafting of wondrous items, and in the process created a ridiculous number of "toys," magical items that honestly have no use beyond simple amusement.\n\nShe tends to carry around a smallish selection of these toys, with the majority of them in her room in Sharn. Even a "smallish selection" contains a lot of these things.\n\nExamples - A sand timer that flow backwards; wind-up things that make a lot of annoying noise and light and move about; extremely primitive and small examples of golems; an iron ball that appears to behave according to nonstandard physical laws (it reacts differently (and far more violently) to gravity than to other forces of acceleration, is not affected normally by friction, and imparts momentum and retains its shape perfectly, in a way that makes dropping it from much more than a hundred or so feet a very, very bad idea); a deck of cards that shuffle itself, and can adequately serve as a dealer for several games by following simple rules; a variety of simulacra that replicate small animals like beetles or frogs quite well. There are others, as well.\n\nA note on the iron ball - Jean dislikes mentioning this, as she has realized it's potential for general mayhem, and is vaguely disturbed by the fact that the inherent, physical characteristics of the things are able to be altered to such a degree. But, it is pretty fun to watch drop, as long as you do so from under fifteen or so feet.\n\n!Notes\n\nUpdated level to 7.\nThese changes will not take place until a bit later.

!The Knights of Brey, Protectorate of the Crown\n\nThe Knights of Brey are not merely a contingent of soldiers loyal to Breland; their legacy is older than Galifar itself. The order was started during the original wars for unification by those in the region of Khorvaire now known as Breland who did not desire dominion under Karrn the Conqueror. Originally they were known as the Knights of Vraath. When Galifar came to power many years later, he offered them a truce and sought to unite them through force of character, not strength on the battlefield. The Knights found Galifar worthy and even changed their organization's name to 'Knights of Brey' in honor of Breland's first scion-governor.\n\nThe Knights of Brey served the Galifar throne loyally and dutifully for a thousand years, but their true loyalties remained to the land. At the start of the Last War, their leaders saw the potential disaster that awaited the country if Kaius, Aurala, or even the Llesh Haruuc were to gain continental dominance. As a consequence, they fought bravely in defense of the new Brelish crown and were awarded the honorary title of Protectorate of the Crown. This special unit is now sent on low-profile, high risk missions that King Boranel can only entrust to the greatest protectors of the land. As such, many of the Protectorate's deeds remain unknown to the populace at large, but they have, in the past, singlehandedly blocked a large invasion force from Darguun, ousted a Karrnathi necro-forge just inside the Brelish border, fought off incursions of corrupted fey on the western edges of Aundair, and stopped the rise of a terrible demon lord who was nearly unchained in the Graywall Mountains.\n\nYour particular unit of the Protectorate has served valiantly on the front lines of the Last War, often placing yourselves behind enemy lines or in strategic flanking positions. These are front line engagments that have successfully (thus far) prevented an armed incursion from entering deep into Brelish territory. Your last mission involved a deep insertion into Cyre to destroy a warforged foundry.\n\n----\n\nMilitary commanders of the Brelish army are always on the lookout for troops that would be good in specialized positions. Often, artificers who exhibit ingenuity on the battlefield are recommended for positions in saboteur units or construction companies. In this case, exhibiting measures of bravery, creativity, trustworthiness, and exceptional loyalty to the crown warrants one to be recommended to the Protectorate.\n\nA company commander makes a recommendation through the chain of command. Once the Protectorate Knight Captain receives the word, the individual in question is brought directly before him for an interview. After a detailed history and interview period with the Knight Captain, a final disposition is forwarded to King Boranel, who either signs it himself or designates a signatory. That individual who is now a Knight of Brey is moved out of his/her company and begins training with the group.\n\nDespite the lengthy sounding process, using House Sivis for messaging has decreased the entire process into less than a week between the recommendation and the approval/denial.
__In the year 986 YK,__ Khorvaire is bleeding from nearly one hundred years of a war that has been called by many //The Last War//, for they do not believe that anyone will survive it. The Five Nations are exhausted from their individual efforts to claim the throne of Galifar, but the sovereigns of the land are all too stubborn to call for an end to the violence, or worse, admit defeat.\n\nIn the western frontier province of Breland known as Droaam, trouble brews. The region has always been considered wild and dangerous, overrun for the most part by giants, goblins and other monsters. These creatures, while deadly on their own, have never been a major threat to the rulers of the land. But in recent months, attacks on Brelish settlements have grown more bold and organized, and there are whispers by many that someoneā¦or maybe something now controls these beasts, and will soon lead them to war.
In the western frontier province of Breland known as Droaam, trouble brews.

Dahai considered how close to death she had been during the last fight and left no time protecting herself.\n\nAros drew Anglachel as he rounded the corner. His pounding feet sunk the boards slightly into the water as he passed over them, splashing murky swamp water all over the surface. It appears that the walkway surface was less a fixed structure and more of a floating dock. Between the corner and the shifting surface, it made Aros' charge hard to maintain, but the veteran managed to maintain his footing.\n\nThe ogre, who moments before had been looking up the stairwell with concern for his companions, quickly whipped about when he heard Aros on the run. He lifted his massive greatclub and brought it down on the mageslayer's back. The strike echoed across the water with a sickening crack-thud as Aros sunk to his knees. Aros felt ribs crack and push inward. The grizzled war-leader felt as though Dolurrh itself, and the Keeper besides, was reaching out for him, beckoning his soul to peace in the land of Death. He fought back that thought after a full lifetime of war flashed before him. Through the pain and the despair, Aros still managed to swing Anglachel across at the ogre's shins. As he did, his auravision pointed out that this ogre had some magic weapons and armor. In that brief second, Anglachel cut deep gashes into the ogre's legs. With the ogre off-balance, Aros managed to regain his feet.\n\nMeanwhile Jean moved out over the hole and drew her wand. She flicked a fireball down at the water below. The concussive force sounded impressive, but the steam generated from the blast obscured her vision. She had no idea how successful her attack was.\n\nIED whipped his axe high as the docent activated, granting the warforged enhanced speed. He moved quickly around the hole in the floor, which prevented a direct charge, but still managed to reach his foe in less than a second. His heavy axe coupled with his magnificent speed felled the ogre in one blow, finishing off the scorched and blackened ogre before it even had a chance to react.\n\nRath's quick thinking probably saved Aros' life. The bard had heard the result of his leader's catastrophic charge and rushed out to cast Glitterdust on the ogre, hoping that Aros' natural ability to avoid magical attacks would prevent his own blindness. As the golden particles suddenly appeared, Aros shut his eyes tight, immediately recognizing the spell.\n\nThe ogre was not as lucky, and was instantly blinded by the bright flashing light reflecting off the shiny metal flakes. Still, he roared as he flew into a rage, lifted his club and swung wildly, hoping to smack the small man near his feet into oblivion. His complete miss nearly sent him tumbling in the water, but he caught himself as his foot hit the edge.\n\nThe other ogre on the water platform saw what was happening and rushed to help his companion, but was unable to strike out at Aros yet.\n\nThe burned but alive ogre on the top floor shook his head, trying to clear the flames from his eyes. He saw the mage hovering over the hole in the floor, reached down to his pile of javelins and quickly hurled one at her. It hurtled towards her, but put a large, unsettling hole in her cloak as it narrowly missed her chest.\n\nAs Jean was examining her cloak and waiting for the steam to waft away, she felt a huge rush of wind as of something flying up at her. The steam quickly spread as a black dragon sped out of the water, as fast and powerful as a Lightning Rail at top speed. As it flew past her, a globe of darkness dropped around the mage, and as quickly as Jean had recognized the danger, it was out of sight.\n\n[img[Rhest_End_Round_1_tn.jpg]]\nRhest_End_Round_1.jpg
Jean's fireball was truly impressive. It was twice its normal size and the inferno was so hot that even Jean's feet were toasty. In the aftermath of the concussive force, she saw two incinerated ogre corpses and two blackened, singed ogres standing up and yelling in pain. In addition, Jean could see stirrings in the water down deep in the building's hole, a sort of roiling as of a creature stirring, which didn't bode well.\n\nThe mage opened her bag and turned it over, dumping IED unceremoniously onto the flooring below her, hoping the warforged could right himself before the ogres got to him.\n\nAros and Dahai made their way to the platform (note, I must have accidentally moved Dahai on the map.)\n\n[img[Rhest Round 1_tn.jpg]]\nRhest Round 1.jpg
The party took its various methods of travel to get to the center of the great lake in the middle of the Blackfens. Aros and Dahai swam from the edges, easily avoiding lizardfolk. Dahai as a large river porpoise would have stood out in the grat flooded plain, but she swam deep enough to avoid notice, dragging the waterbreathing Aros behind her. The flooded city was amazing to look at, full of fish and new life, evidence of lizardfolk's passing, and the odd swamp predator or two. But the shifted druid and her commander managed to avoid any problems on their journey.\n\nAfter convincing IED to crawl into the bag of holding, something that took more than a little persuasion, Jean took off to get to the Town Hall via the air. Her voyage was similarly uneventful, but vastly more informative. She flew high over lizardfolk huts, which resembled nothing so much as giant beaver lodges, and estimated that each hut housed ~10 adult lizardfolk. She also caught sight of an old bell tower, which looked like it was manned and ready to ring a warning bell. She moved a little higher up and tried to mimic the flight path of a bird so as to avoid any calamitous bell-ringing. She did note that the tower was within viewing and hearing range of the Town Hall, but didn't see any easy way for the guards to get from one to the other.\n\nAs she flew over the Town Hall itself, she saw a large structure that was partially submerged, with only two stories above the water, and probably two below. The top floor housed four ogres in various walled rooms on the roof. Two more appeared to be standing watch on a main platform below. In the center of the building was a huge hole which appeared to go straight through the next floor as well to the water below.\n\nFrom her high vantagepoint, Jean could see the idling Dahai and Aros, and she flew close to the water above them.*\n\n*Note - I have IED out of the bag on the map, but that's just for bookkeeping purposes - so that I don't forget to put him on the map later.\n\n//What must have been an impressive stone structure now lies half-submerged in the lake. Its facade still displays majestic heroes bearing heraldic lion devies and armed with swords spears, and bows, their countenances carved into marble pillars. The building's ground floor is now completely submerged and its second floor sits just above the water level, its marble heroes caked with moss and mud. The third floor has partially collapsed, exposing its rooms to the sky above. A wooden walkway has been lashed together around the building's perimeter, and a floating bridge leads to a nearby low ruin surrounded by a wooden palisade. Two flights of wooden stairs lead up along the facade to the ruined roof above.//\n\n*Note about the map - the left portion is the floor even with the water. There are no monster tokens inside because you can't see in. The right portion is just the roof of the structure. Imagine it on top of the left portion.\n\n[img[Rhest_pre-round_tn.jpg]]\nRhest Pre-Round.jpg\n
Dahai attempted to bolster her captain with some humor, which appeared to be working, even if it was just a small smirk from the corner of Aros' mouth. Or was that more of a wince? Regardless, she shifted her focus to deliberately provoking the ogres and swung her quarterstaff at the wounded ogre's head. The right-hand strike from the staff came across the ogre's nose like a lightning rail, leaving the beast with the distinct vision of arcing electrical energy and a severely broken nose. Not that he really had time to dwell on the pretty sight as the druid's staff whipped up, the left-hand pulling the staff's weighted end from behind her in an upward swinging arc, connecting with the ogre's jaw, distending and shattering it, sending his sharpened bottom teeth directly into his eye sockets. The hulking giant crumpled backwards into the water. His corpse, weighted by his armor, only floated a few moments before slowly sinking beneath the green surface.\n\nAros stepped forward, Anglachel held low in a reverse grip. As he ripped the sword upward, the soldier felt a brief spasm in his shoulder. He muscled on through it as he felt a tendon whine in disobedience, but not even his body could stop Aros' sheer willpower. Bracing for his sword connecting the ogre's ribcage, Aros was disappointed to feel no resistance, but a second glance assured him that not only had Anglachel connected, but it had nearly bifurcated the ogre's chest. The momentum of the sword pulled Aros in a little whirl, his back briefly to the ogre before the blade spun through and impaled itself in the ogre's stomach. As the dying creature slid forward, its intestines flumped out onto the slick wooden decks, the bulk of the monster shaking the platform and splashing the surrounding algaeic water onto Aros's bloody face. In a shocking turn of events, not only was Aros still alive, but both ogres were now dead.\n\nJean flitted up a little higher to get a better view, then flicked a fire orb down at the new combatants. It burst neatly above the now-rat-sized hobgoblin and the larger-but-still-pretty-far-away dragon and sent concussive waves that everyone down below on the water platform could feel. The hobgoblin dove for cover, and managed to avoid most of the blast's effect. The dragon spun about, the fire crackling around it but not seeming to affect it at all, and redirected its cold focus on the orb of darkness flying above.\n\nWhile the hobgoblin was busy dodging the fireball, IED was moving to intercept him. The warforged managed to avoid the fire blast due to the skillful placement of his mage comrade, and stepped around the corner just in time to catch the Kulkor Zhul Mindbender unprepared. His axe smacked the humanoid creature right on top of its helmeted skull. The hobgoblin was lucky that hit wasn't more solid, or else his head might have been cleaved in two.\n\nRath stepped forward behind his commander and again cast a spell of healing on the leader.\n\nThe large black dragon laughed at the mage, shrugging off the effects of the fireball as though it was a kiss. It roared and sped to catch the aloof wizard. As it got within 10 feet of her, its neck shot forward, its maw wide open, and bit Jean, hard. But it didn't stop there. The dragon just held her in its mouth, its powerful fangs grinding against her ribs. It breathed noxious fumes around her, its tongue tasting her flesh. "I'm called Regiarix, and you're called breakfast."\n\nThe Mindbender stepped back out of IED's range, twinkling his eyes, and spoke calmly to the warforged. "You should stop attacking me and go kill that goblin bastard right there." IED listened to the words, which made a surprising amount of sense, and shifted his gaze to the goblin just now coming out of the northern stairwell.\n\nWyrmlord Saarvith looked at the warforged, then at the hobgoblin, then back to the warforged as IED's focus changed. "You are treasonous scum, Nurklenak. You will pay later." With that the goblin whistled for the dragon's attention, and then slipped back into the building below.\n\n[img[rhest_town_hall_round_4_tn.jpg]]\nrhest_town_hall_round_4.jpg
Dahai spoke a few words and called to nature to grant her the speed of a Talenta Plains raptor. She drew her quarterstaff as she ran, hoping to draw further attacks away from Aros. As she moved by the ogre, she did manage to attract its attention, as well as the swing of its club. Luckily for the druid, he was still blind, and he missed completely.\n\nAros choked back some bloody bile, lifted his enchanted blade, and summoned a strength of will that would have awed most of Breland. He struck the ogre hard twice, but the beast, although thoroughly bloodied, was still standing. Shocked, Aros stepped back for a breath.\n\nJean sped high into the air, hoping to shake off the darkness, but was wholly unsuccessful. The good news, it wasn't a pitch blackness, but rather more like a persistent shadowy light, as though it were dusk. The bad news was that it was stuck to her.\n\nIED took advantage of the brief darkness and scaled the wall. It was an old, crumbly building, but even still, it was sturdy enough for the warforged's heavy bulk. As he poked his armored head over the top, the darkness that had surrounded him left with the wizard. The sight that greeted IED's eyes would have forced a smile out of him, if he ever smiled. He made use of the ogre's distractedness as he leapt down, swinging his axe with the extra weight from the jump. His axe cleaved the ogre's skull in two and continued almost to the beast's pelvis. As IED pulled his axe from the body, a sickening squelch greeted his auditory canals. Sickening for a human maybe.\n\nRath ran forward and cast a healing spell on his leader, imparting what comfort he could to his severely injured comrade.\n\nThe blind ogre tried to swing his greatclub again at whatever was in front of him, but continued to miss. His comrade flew into a rage as well, and tried to finish off the wounded warrior in front of him. He struck hard, but the steadfast commander took the blow and still did not knuckle under to the pain.\n\nThe dragon saw the wizard move up and away from the center of the tower, but glanced down at the now solitary metal man directly beneath him. He flew down closer to IED and spat acid in the warforged's face. As he did so, his quick movement and fearsome presence awed IED and left him visibly shaken, acid dripping down his chin onto his armored chest. Rath, Aros, and Dahai heard the dragon's beating wings and glanced up briefly, and while the presence of a dragon was unsettling, they had more pressing issues of concern.\n\nWhile the dragon tangled with the warforged, a goblin and a hobgoblin came up the stairs from inside the building.\n\n[img[rhest_town_hall_end_round_3_tn.jpg]]\nrhest_town_hall_end_round_3.jpg
Dahai granted a large measure of acid protection to her immediate companions and turned to follow her commander as Aros ran up the stairs. At the top of the steps, the Knights took just long enough to breathe so that Rath could cast another healing spell on Aros. While taking their brief respite, they saw a flash as the dark orb above their heads shifted and disappeared. In its place was a large black dragon, and...was that a warforged in its teeth? Not for long. They gasped as the dragon turned back toward the town hall, began to fly in that direction, and then spat IED out, leaving him to tumble to the ground below. The warforged managed to swing his axe around once as he fell, and he managed to smack the dragon's arm with a pretty hefty strike, but did not manage to stop or even slow his fall. It was clear that IED wasn't falling straight down, but IED was pretty sure his landing, even into the swamp, was not going to be pleasant. Still, he felt quite sure he'd survive, thrive even, and be able to bloody that dragon further.\n\nThe dragon, after dropping IED, moved back to the building and dropped to near building level just over the hole, apparently waiting for something. Jean could see the dragon from underneath. Coupled with the fact that the goblin was gathering his stuff, Jean made the conclusion that they were getting ready to bug out.\n\nMeanwhile, Jean had moved into the building and flew into a partially protected corner. As she did so, she saw an ettin in the room under the stairwell, apparently awaiting Jean's comrades descent into the town hall. She also saw the goblin leader as he rushed past her and into the room to the north, leaving the door wide open as he did so. He appeared to be gathering papers from a desk and stuffing them into his bag.\n\nThe hobgoblin mindbender saw the quick switch with the wizard suddenly appearing where his controlled warforged had been standing just seconds ago. As the flying woman quickly zipped down into the hole in the floor, he also heard the stomping feet as the rest of the attackers were moving upstairs. He didn't want to be alone meeting any group that managed to kill four ogres in mere seconds, and turned to move back into the town hall too. He ran past the ettin and the door, heading for the goblin's office.\n\n[img[rhest_town_hall_round_5_tn.jpg]]\nrhest_town_hall_round_5.jpg

Aros moved around the corner and headed down into the town hall, with Rath and Dahai in tow. Just as they reached the bottom of the stairwell, Dahai cast a spell on Aros, hoping to grant the leader enough energy to continue the fight without causing himself further injury.\n\nMeanwhile Jean reached deep inside her being and cast a spell so draining that both the Wyrmlord and his Mindbender companion fell unconscious immediately. The spell's energy crackled around the dragon to little effect, while the ettin took the full blast and just shrugged it off.\n\nThe dragon wasted little time dallying and quickly sent a spell out towards Jean. The wizard saw a massive cone of technicolor which she recognized as Color Spray before she dropped everything and became complete immobile. The dragon then took off, moving as fast as it could away from this obviously well-prepared group of adventurers.\n\nThe ettin heard the group led by Aros tromping down the steps, but he knew his bulk would hinder him if he tried to step closer to the small stairwell. So, as he was trained to do in guarding this post, he just stood his ground and readied his morningstars for battle.\n\n[img[rhest_town_hall_round_6_tn.jpg]]\nrhest_town_hall_round_6.jpg
Aros stepped into hall and spat a curse at the two-headed giant, whose increasing fear became obvious as its jaw dropped open. As the ettin stood there slack-jawed and gulping, it tried to grip it's club even tighter but only managed to fumble a bit. It tried to put on a brave face and was about to step forward when the ground fell out from beneath it. Literally.\n\nDahai's quick thinking in reshaping the stone created a near perfect hole beneath the ettin, through which the giant fell. It splashed into the dark, flooded first floor and thrashed about to maintain its balance.\n\nJean, dazed from the dragon's last spell, looked about in confusion.\n\nIED dropped through the big hole that the dragon had been using as an access point and fell into the water below, where the warforged sawa confused and frightened ettin, soaked to the bone and looking about for a way to breathe.\n\n[img[rhest_town_hall_round_7_tn.jpg]]\nrhest_town_hall_round_7.jpg
